I like that by limiting the amount of slots people actually have to think about and prioritize what they will lug around. I currently just roll with a "whatever seems reasonable" encumbrance system. Or imagine making a warlock with all of two spell slots and then the DM deciding to implement the longer rests variant from the Dungeon Master’s Guide, forcing you to draw out those spell slots over the entire day rather than regaining them after every fight. And, crucially, when they take damage in combat--anything fragile that they're carrying can break. I think these sorts of rules put an emphasis on encumbrance in a way that weight-based encumbrance systems don't.

According to the PHB, you multiply strength by 15 to determine how much a character can carry, and by 5 to determine how much they can carry before having their movement speeds slowed. The dwarven fighter in our party has strength of 18, and so he can carry 90 lbs before being slowed, and he really doesn't want to be slowed because as a dwarf he's already slower than everyone else. Every character gets one free ENC “slot.” Beyond that, they can carry 1/3 of their STR and still move at full rate (120), up to 2/3 of their STR and move at 90, their full STR and move at 60, and 1/3 over their STR and stagger along at 30.

The price is a bit higher than what Saga Edition listed, but that's due to a combination of the cost of what's included and the fact that the belt doesn't add to the character's encumbrance total, which lets them carry a lot more other stuff.
